BNZ continue to show leadership by consistently using Green Star – Interiors to prove the performance of their buildings, including 80 Queen Street, BNZ Harbour Quays and now BNZ Centre Christchurch achieves a 5 Star Green Star Office Interiors v2009 Certification. This also shows that people leasing buildings have the option to use both Green Star – Interiors and now Green Star – Performance to illustrate their sustainability.

Project Summary:

BNZ occupy all of Level 4 and have a small bike store/shower facility on the ground floor.

Kitchen/staff cafe is located centrally in the fitout, facing north with access to balcony. It is available for use by BNZ staff and customers through the Partners Centre. Toilets are part of the base building. 2 blocks of toilets are located around the cores of the Western and Eastern wings of the building.

The fitout has new plumbing and drainage services to the ground floor area, extension to the land lord plumbing and drainage to serve the east and west wing to serve kitchenettes, basins, water coolers, and appliances.

Equal access to daylight and views for all users of the building. Varied and abundant use of planting throughout. Materials and furniture selected have a lower environmental impact than standard . Waste recycling processes are in place and tenant cycling facilities are provided on site.

The following sustainable features have been recognized under its Green Star rating:

  • 95% of construction waste by weight being recycled or reused
  • Good Building User Guide and Tenant User Guide
  • Site-specific Environmental Management Plan implemented on site
  • Good practices of tenant lead Environmental Management Operations
  • Enclosed photocopy rooms with a dedicated and separate exhaust facility with minimum of 5L/s/m2 exhaust rate.
  • Workstations enable individual control of the air supply rates and temperature to a maximum of 75m2 zones
  • 30% of work settings have a Daylight Factor of not less than 2.5%
  • Fresh air rates of 20 L/s/work setting (higher than required for NZBC)
  • Above 70% work settings have good access to external view
  • Low VOC flooring, paints and adhesives and sealants, furniture
  • High frequency ballasts
  • Indoor plants provided throughout
  • Lighting Design Practices that lessen lighting energy consumption and offer greater flexibility for light switching

Innovation:

The project has achieved 95% diversion of waste from landfill. This exceeds the top benchmark of 70% set by the Credit and has resulted in 6.66 tonnes of waste being diverted from landfill.
