The chief executive of leading NZX-listed property company Argosy, Peter Mence, has been appointed to the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) Board.
“Peter is a hugely respected figure in the sector, and brings with him a wealth of governance knowledge, a passion for property, and a strong interest in sustainable development,” NZGBC Board Chair Brendon Dwyer says.
With a community of over 650 companies and organisations across the building and property sectors, members of the NZGBC voted in Peter Mence at last night’s Annual General Meeting.
“The work the New Zealand Green Building Council is doing to provide independent, trusted green certifications, and support industry transformation is hugely important for the future. I’m looking forward to working with the board and the NZGBC team to ensure we’re in the best position to continue that vital work,” Peter Mence says.
Argosy has a diversified portfolio of over 50 properties throughout the North and South Island. Under Peter’s leadership, Argosy has become a leader in sustainable property in Aotearoa. The company is making great strides towards its portfolio sustainability goal of 50% green assets by 2031. Argosy’s 82 Wyndham Street was the first building to successfully pilot the NZGBC’s Net Zero Buildings certification for building operations, and their impressive 6 Green Star retrofit of 8 Willis Street has picked up numerous awards including a Highly Commended Award at the World Green Building Council Asia Pacific Leader Awards this month, and the Supreme Award at the Property Council’s 2024 Property Industry Awards.

With hands on experience navigating the challenges and opportunities of bringing buildings to market, and supporting tenants, Peter’s perspective on our board will be invaluable as we continue to work to transform the wider market and create a better built environment,” NZGBC chief executive Andrew Eagles says.
The NZGBC is made up of leaders representing a range of key industry groups. Peter Mence fills the board vacancy representing the Property sector, after Bayleys’ Paula Bennett retired from the board earlier in the year.
