Our nation’s very first 10 Star Homestar apartments were recently announced.

The apartments – known as Daisy – sparkle with swathes of natural light in the day and host sweeping views of Auckland. Retractable shades create a cool retreat when it’s summer in Aotearoa’s largest city. The cost to heat one of these apartments is expected to be no more than powering four or fewer 60W incandescent lights, helping save on power bills.

The team behind Daisy – Ockham Residential has achieved something special here.

Each apartment has efficient lighting and water fittings, and balanced heat recovery ventilation that will help keep their lucky Kiwi occupiers warm, dry and healthy. The water is from a centralised heat pump hot water system that is much more efficient than individual electric or gas cylinders in each apartment.

Promoting low impact living, Daisy has scooter and cycle parks, two City Hop shared cars for exclusive resident use, communal gardens, and separately metered hot water supply so people can see how much hot and cold water they use and for which they get billed separately.

Ockham has also taken some innovative steps, by working with Auckland Transport to transform a neighbouring disused space into an urban garden with fruits and veggies as well as native planting, adding value to the local ecology and creating a recreational space for residents.

Daisy has blossomed into apartment homes that are not just leading the way in New Zealand, but also leading the way in the world.

Onya Ockham!
