We’ve just finished up the first round of consultation on some of the biggest changes to Green Star yet. Green Star Buildings will replace Green Star Design & As Built NZ v1.1 when introduced in late 2023.
It promises a big shift in our sector’s efforts to slash carbon, as well as embedding benchmarks for addressing climate change, resource efficiency, and health and wellbeing.
While the New Zealand industry has increasingly adapted and embraced sustainable design and building practices, there remains work to do to ensure this ambitious Green Star update is fit for the New Zealand market. This first round was designed to be broad and introduce the topline changes. Thanks for taking the time to join our us online, and in person in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. And thanks also for investing the time to deliver detailed submissions in response. You’ve given us a lot to work through over the coming weeks and present to the Green Star Advisory Committee overseeing this process.

The Green Star team is now collating the feedback we’ve received alongside our technical partner Norman Disney & Young. We’re working to provide a summary early in 2023, alongside the first draft of the tool.
We’ll also begin working alongside those of you signing up to the Early Access Programme to pilot Green Star Buildings NZ. Find out more here.
A second draft will be released for consultation in the second half of 2023 before the certification is rolled out towards the end of the year. Green Star Design & As Built will continue to be available until October 2024.
As you can see this is a two year campaign. Sponsorship opportunities are available for you to demonstrate your leadership and commitment.
If you have any questions, or would like to discuss the Early Access Programme or Green Star Buildings sponsorship opportunities, please get in touch with our Senior Manager, Buildings and Communities Brad Crowley
