What you need to know

Try again shall we? You may remember, in 2023 our building site visits had to be abandoned due to a major weather event in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.  The irony was not lost on us! 

Since then, these buildings have achieved their built certifications - amongst many of the accolades for their achievements in sustainable outcomes, and the legacies they leave for tenants and local communities as outstanding properties for New Zealanders. Hear from their developers, design and construction teams on their ambitions, the challenges in bringing these projects to life, and how their clients and tenants are now settling into these spaces to work, learn and play. 

Starting at 9.30am, we'll visit two buildings before we break for lunch (this is a great opportunity to book in a business lunch downtown between 11.30-12.45), and then carry on with our site visits until 3.30pm

This will be followed by the official launch of Green Star Buildings later that evening - please join us for this wonderful event

Deloitte Centre ‘Te Kaha’ 1 Queen Street, is Auckland CBD’s newest destination demonstrating embodied carbon savings through smart design and green operational policies. Discover a location where sustainability thrives through a meticulous review of building systems, ensuring efficiency and maintainability across the precinct. The building boasts resilient features such as advanced drainage systems and backup power solutions, enhanced air quality measures exceeding industry standards, water conservation measures, waste diversion strategies, district cooling, heat recovery, and LED lighting strategies for energy efficiency. Occupancy wellbeing is at the forefront of the building design; from panoramic views, natural light, EOT facilities, access to public transport, cultural artwork, natural light and acoustic and thermal comfort measures.

Morton Property Group, 228 Queen Street and 3 Lorne Street

5 Star Green Star – Design Review Rating (May 2023)
 
Morton Property Group have redeveloped two heritage buildings into a single-form, mixed-use property comprising of prime retail frontage on Queen St, and offices and hospitality fronting Lorne St. Established in 1880 and 1914, the two original buildings were once the headquarters for the Bendix Hallenstein’s clothing label Hallenstein Brothers.
The building boasts green features such as building reuse, significant façade retention, an estimated 29% reduction in operational energy consumption - lowering operational costs of the building's heating, cooling and lighting, and a predicted reduction in GHG emissions of at least 40% compared to a standard building.

6 Green Star Office Built v3 Certified Rating

105 Carlton Gore Road incorporates a plethora of environmental and sustainable features, reflecting a commitment to minimising its carbon footprint. Throughout the design and construction process, existing materials were carefully assessed for Greenstar, with an emphasis on reuse to reduce waste and embodied carbon. The building has features and services focusing on climate adaption addressing increasing temperatures, rainfall, wind and reducing operating costs by incorporating energy and water-saving initiatives and encouraging waste recycling. Energy conservation features such as intelligent LED lighting, heat recovery air handlers with Co2 control, 60kW solar array, heat pump chillers and ec ability fan coils, improve overall occupant comfort and lower the operating carbon footprint.

B201 Building

University of Auckland, 10 Symonds Street

6 Green Star Design Review Rating

The B201 project was born from a desire for the University’s estate to set a positive example of sustainability in Aotearoa. The University decided to turn this unloved, and poorly performing building into an example of how adaptive reuse can be transformative and as good, if not better, than demolition and replacement. Some green features include reduced energy use and GHG emissions compared to a standard building, predicted water consumption 75% less than a standard building, excellent access to public transport, significant reduction in the amount of construction waste sent to landfill, green roof planting, and a new façade with optimised window-to-wall ratios, high-performance solar glazing, and targeted external shading.
