Approved Ruling:

1.    The NZGBC accepts that a closet area within a habitable space (bedroom or living) can be added to the total heated area in a space having a dedicated heating source or where a central heating system is being used.
2.    Bathrooms and other unhabitable spaces are to be excluded in the heated area calculation, except in rare cases where a heater is provided specifically for that space. 
3.    The NZGBC can accept using an alternative method to calculate the space heating system proportion. However, such calculations should be detailed, clear easy to understand, and provided as part of the evidence at submission.
