What you need to know

Airtightness is essential for energy efficiency and reducing running costs, and is globally recognised as best practice for both homes and buildings. As an industry we can see the value, but do we fully understand how to successfully design, build and test it?

Over the next few months, we’re teaming up with some of Australasia’s best airtightness specialists to bring you a 4-part series ‘Airtightness in Aotearoa’ - a series highlighting all stages of the process, and culminating in an in-person live blower-door demonstration.

This is a fantastic opportunity to understand the fundamental design, construction and testing of airtightness, so you can deliver an airtight home or building. For those involved in NZGBC certifications, it’s an excellent chance to find out more about this vital element, which is rewarded and encouraged in both Green Star – Design & As Built and Homestar. It’s also a great opportunity to get ahead, with the latest version of Green Star - Green Star Buildings NZ introducing airtightness as a minimum requirement when it launches later this year.

Fill in the gaps in your knowledge, and help fill in the gaps in our buildings.

  1. Part One | Design - Wednesday 3 April
  2. Part Two | Build - Wednesday 1 May
  3. Part Three | Test - Wednesday 5 June
