Helping home owners improve home health.

All too often, they are cold, draughty, expensive to heat, and make us, our friends and our whānau sick.

As a for-purpose we're working to make sure that all New Zealanders know they can make their homes healthier and happier. That's why we have developed HomeFit - because we believe it's going to make our homes better.

HomeFit is a no-nonsense, straightforward way to check if a home is warm, safe and dry, and it works in two easy ways.

  • through a HomeFit online check; and
  • an in-home HomeFit assessment to really uncover what needs to be done and to meet the Healthy Homes Standards.
“I think the HomeFit certification standards are a fair and reasonable goal for all Kiwi homes. It’s certainly achievable with some effort, and the long-term benefits of healthy and fit homes are worth it”

Do a free HomeFit online check

Our HomeFit check will walk you through your home and help you take stock of essential features that make a home warm, dry, and more efficient. It's quick and easy enough to do as you stroll through an open home, helping show whether it'll be a nice healthy, comfortable place to live - and what you can do to fix it if it isn't.

While the online check doesn't provide a HomeFit stamp, it does show you how close you are to passing, and what improvements you can make before asking an independent assessor to visit. If the home needs improvements, you can find a list of installers who can help.

Get an independent HomeFit certification

As well as our free online check, for a more comprehensive and independent check of your home there are dozens of trained professionals who can conduct an official HomeFit assessment and certification. By passing this quick verification, your home will get a HomeFit stamp, so you can be sure it's fit for your family or tenants.

We recommend taking the online check first, and acting on any suggested improvements before locking in an assessment
