Our qualifications have been developed to ensure you are equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to deliver our certifications and support the wider industry and clients to build great spaces.
With our certifications constantly reviewed and updated, we require those actively involved in supporting clients in compiling and submit assessments to keep up-to-date with the latest tools and requirements.
Continuous professional development (CPD) points
CPD points can be earned through a range of NZGBC and non-NZGBC activities. Points are awarded for actions or attending events and programmes that;
- enhance your own knowledge and understanding; or contribute to others’ knowledge and understanding, of sustainable built environments
- enhance your own knowledge and understanding; or contribute to others’ knowledge and understanding, of the NZGBC rating tools
CPD points are awarded only for activities with substantial educational content. Some external events that provide CPD points are pre-approved and will be posted on our website. For external events proof of attendance is required.
- 1 point per instructional hour for all approved NZGBC events/masterclasses and webinars
- 1 point for all approved non-NZGBC courses and events
- 6 points for full attendance at an NZGBC summit
In order to be eligible for a qualification renewal, GSAPs or Homestar Designers need to gain 10 CPD Points and Homestar Assessors needs to gain 12 CPD Points - at least 5 from NZGBC activities - during the annual renewal cycle.
If you are carrying out assessments under Homestar or Green Star, these may be used to contribute to your CPD points.
Homestar
Homestar Assessors who submit one or more projects in the two year period can claim 4 points.
Green Star
Lead GSAPs on one or more registered projects in the two year period can claim 4 points. Assessors who complete 4 assessments in the two year period may claim 4 points.
If you hold one or more qualification in Green Star, you will only need to gain 10 CPD points total.
If you hold a Green Star and Homestar qualification, you will need to gain 10-12 points for each qualification

When your points are approved you will be notified and you will see the allocation on your website profile.
Qualification renewal requirements and costs
Different qualifications have varying renewal periods and pricing. Checkout the sections below for full pricing relevant to your qualification
Green Star qualification renewals are due every year.
Green Star Accredited Professionals (GSAPs) are required to complete 10 CPD points in order to be eligible for renewal.
Green Star Associates are required to complete 6 CPD points in order to be eligible for renewal.

Homestar renewals are due every year.
Homestar Designers are required to complete 10 CPD points in order to be eligible for renewal.
Homestar Assessors are required to complete 12 CPD points in order to be eligible for renewal.

NABERSNZ qualification renewals are due every year.
NABERSNZ Accredited Assessors are required to complete 6 CPD points in order to be eligible for renewal.
There is no renewal fee for NABERSNZ Practitioner qualification

You will be emailed an invoice one month before your qualification is due to expire if you have completed the renewal requirements.
HomeFit renewals are due every year.
While there are no requirements for FE points for HomeFit Assessors, all professionals will be required to undertake refresher training when a major tool update is released.

You will be emailed an invoice one month before your qualification is due to expire. Maintaining the qualification is essential for your app subscription, if you fail to pay your renewal, access to the assessor app will be denied.
