What you need to know

According to Mates in Construction (MIC) our sector loses nearly one person every week to suicide, and insights from Health15 tell us one stroke occurs every 55 minutes in New Zealand. The long hours and physically demanding nature of construction can leave workers vulnerable to problems associated with mental health, stroke and other health side-effects.

In response to member feedback asking for more emphasis on the importance of caring for our people, our communities, and sharing action we can take on health and wellbeing, join us for this Plugged-in webinar.

Gloria Vetekina, Practice, Program & Quality Assurance Manager, Mates in Construction will share the latest insights on mental health and how the MATES programme provides steps to strengthen workplace communities. MIC is focussed on building strength onsite, raising awareness around the importance of mental health in the workplace and provide support programmes with positive outcomes.

Jo Lambert, Chief Executive, Stroke Foundation New Zealand has partnered with The Building Intelligence Group (TBIG) to establish Health15, a service that offers free blood pressure tests and expert health and wellbeing advice directly to construction workers. Health15 aims to change the unhealthy side effects of the hard work and long hours involved when working in our sector

Joe Quad, Manager – Buildings and Communities, NZGBC rolls up his sleeves every day to work with our members on assessing Green Star projects. In this session, Joe will discuss the High Quality Staff Support (7.3) credit in Green Star Design & As Built v1.1 which strives to promote positive mental and physical health outcomes of site activities and culture of site workers, through programs and solutions on site and enhance site workers’ knowledge on sustainable practices.
