This accreditation offers building professionals and housing quality inspectors an opportunity to rate existing homes with the HomeFit tool. Prerequisite qualifications required.

What you need to know

The HomeFit training webinar focuses on teaching an in-depth understanding of HomeFit and the assessment process.

Participants will be able to become an accredited HomeFit assessor and receive a subscription to the online tool. The course includes online self-led modules which include facilitator instruction recordings and reading materials.

This accreditation verifies your knowledge on the HomeFit assessment tool.

HomeFit Assessor course FAQs

Participants need to meet either one of the following qualifications:

  • Principles of Home Performance (HPA Level 1) - find information here
  • Home Performance Advisor (HPA Level 2) - find more information
  • Eco Design Advisor (EDA)
  • Member of NZIBI (NZ Institute of Building Inspectors)
  • Member of BOINZ (Building Officials Institute of NZ)
  • Member of NZIBS (NZ Institute of Building Surveyors)

or 3 years relevant building/inspection experience

If you meet the requirements, please fill out the above online application form. Once this is approved you will receive an email to pay for the course and will then be enrolled upon payment.

After the successful completion of the training, participants are required to complete an online exam, submit a mock assessment and sign the HomeFit Assessor Agreement, which contains the terms and conditions under which they agree to operate as a HomeFit assessor including insurance requirements.

The course fee includes:

  • Online training materials
  • Online exam and mock assessment
  • Subscription to the HomeFit Assessor web-app for one year

Assessor Agreement
The Assessor is required to take out and maintain insurance policies of a type and level reasonably specified by NZGBC from time to time. As a minimum, NZGBC requires assessors to have $2 million in public liability insurance cover and $100,000 in professional indemnity. Read the full assessor agreement.
