What you need to know

In Aotearoa, we are fortunate to have a highly renewable electricity grid. Therefore, often the quickest way to decarbonise our buildings is to ditch any fossil fuel use and become fully electric. This also helps future-proof properties as society transitions away from gas and other fossil fuels.

This masterclass dives into the world of electrification, for those who are wanting to make their existing buildings fully electric and explore alternatives to fossil fuels.  This masterclass will help you:

  • Understand why electrification is important in a decarbonised future
  • Examine alternatives to fossil fuels
  • Explore key considerations/options for electrification in different situations
  • Identify key challenges for electrification and how to overcome them
  • Become familiar with the NZGBC Practical Guide for Electrification and other industry resources to support electrification projects
  • Understand the importance of electrification in NABERSNZ with the update to emission factors, favouring cleaner grid electricity vs onsite fossil fuel use
  • Hear from people who have done it - case studies include 82 Wyndham Street, which was built to 5 star Green Star standard and achieved the pinnacle of a 6 star NABERSNZ energy rating
