Green Star Certification Fees
A certification fee applies to projects pursuing a Green Star certified rating and covers the standard Green Star process.
Outlined below are the fees for all Green Star tools.
What's included in your Certification fee?
The following items are included as part of NZGBC's standard certification services:-
Support for your project from a technical coordinator.
- Assessment of your project by independent assessors.
- An individualised certificate confirming certification.
- Once certified, a license to use the Green Star trademark to promote your project. For more information, refer to NZGBC's brand guidelines.
Discounted Certification fees for members
If you're a NZGBC member at the time of project registration, a discounted certification fee will apply - see below for details.
Green Star Design & As Built, Buildings and Interiors Certification fees
For a Green Star Design & As Built, Green Star Buildings or a Green Star Interiors Certified Rating, the following fees apply.

Green Star Performance
For a Green Star Performance Certified Rating, the following fees apply.
Please note price will be determined at time of billing and is subject to change. The certification fee is payable in full upon registration, as well as before Year 1 and Year 2 Audits in Green Star Performance. All fees shown are excluding GST.

Green Star Performance - Energy & Water Only
For a Green Star Performance - Energy & Water Only Certified Rating, the following fees apply.
Please note price will be determined at time of billing and is subject to change. The certification fee is payable in full upon registration, as well as before Year 1 and Year 2 Audits in Green Star Performance. All fees shown are excluding GST.

Charged technical question - $400 + GST
Charged additional review - $950+ GST
Appeal - $950+ GST
Extension of time fee - $2,500 + GST
Certification Agreement amendment - A minimum of $200 subject to the complexity of the required changes.
Green Star Communities
NZGBC works closely with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to register and manage certification for Green Star Communities. Fees for these projects are available on GBCA's website.

REGISTER A PROJECT
Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.1 is the latest version of Green Star, effective from the 28th April 2022. The deadline for registering projects under Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.0 will be 28th October 2022. From then on projects wishing to register may only use the Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.1 submission guidelines.
To register a project, please download the Eligibility, Registration & Submission Form from this page and submit the completed form to greenstarnz@nzgbc.org.nz.

Technical Resources NZv1.1
Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.1 is the latest version of Green Star launched on 28th April 2022.
The deadline for registering projects under Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.0 will be 28th October 2022, after which all projects must register using the the Green Star Design and As Built NZv1.1 submission guidelines.
This page will continue to be updated with additional v1.1 resources, including the embodied carbon calculator.
