Hawkes Bay Green Speak

What you need to know

Building resilience today means safer, stronger communities tomorrow.

We’re excited to bring Green Speak to Hawke’s Bay. Join us for an evening of practical insights, inspiring case studies, and regional perspectives on how we can design and build in ways that are resilient, cost-effective, and future-ready.

We’re talking about creating buildings and communities that are safe, healthy and connected. Diving into issues like reducing risks to people, property and critical services. Designing homes and buildings to withstand flooding or heatwaves, safeguarding investments and protecting the value of assets to ensure they remain viable in a changing climate.

This event brings together local voices and national expertise to explore the challenges and opportunities in Hawke’s Bay as we adapt to a changing climate and growing demand for better buildings and communities.

What you’ll hear about:

  • Designing for a resilient future
    Marie Fleming, DCA Architects
On the need for broader adoption of low-carbon, efficient building practices – and how the Hawke’s Bay community is already responding to climate adaptation.
  • Climate adaptation from a regional perspective
Amberley Gibson, Climate Change Lead Strategic Advisor, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council
Amberley will share insights from her work across local councils, particularly around regional risk assessment and planning for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Te Kete – Napier’s civic heart
Ethan Duff, Associate Building Scientist, Beca
A look at Te Kete in Central Napier, designed as a civic precinct to strengthen community connection. Targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, the Te Aka | Napier Library is central to a new community hub. Understanding this Ethan will take us through the climate adaptation planning and community engagement.
  • Updates from NZGBC
Sam Archer, Director of Market Transformation, NZGBC
Hear the latest developments on Homestar and Green Star, including how the tools support climate adaptation planning, responsible products, and energy efficiency.

Why attend?

  • Learn from local leaders about how Hawke’s Bay is responding to climate challenges.
  • Explore practical ways to reduce costs and risks through better design and building.
  • Connect with peers across the property, design, and construction sectors.
  • Be part of the conversation on creating a resilient, thriving future for the region.
