After over 18months, the consultation process tailoring the new framework “Green Star Buildings” for the New Zealand market is almost complete. Join us for the final event in the series as we deep dive into each of the seven categories.
The ‘Positive’ category addresses credits encouraging a positive contribution to key environmental issues of carbon, water, and the impact of materials.
This event is suitable for architects, designers, sustainability consultants, builders, procurement personnel, product suppliers and manufacturers.

Emily Newmarch
Carbon and Sustainability Lead - Warren and Mahoney
Emily is a PhD candidate at Victoria University of Wellington, working on a research project embedded within Warren and Mahoney.
She is passionate about bridging the gap between art and science to inspire action through architecture. The ambition of her PhD is to explore embodied carbon emissions through a poetic and practical lens to find innovative solutions for New Zealand buildings.
Jarrod O'Sullivan
NZ Hydraulic Lead - NDY
Jarrod is the New Zealand Hydraulic lead at NDY. Jarrod has worked on various projects across the commercial office, retail, hotel, education and aged care facilities sector including being the lead hydraulic engineer on the 3 Te Kehu Way project, which New Zealand's first 6-Star Green Star Design & As Built rating.
Joe Quad
Manager - Buildings & Communities - NZGBC
With a background in mechanical engineering and sustainability consulting, Joe is a key part of the Green Star team. He helps projects achieve their sustainability targets and develops new standards to continually challenge the construction industry to strive for more environmentally friendly buildings.
After completing his degree in Building Engineering in Montreal, he spent almost a decade working in the consulting roles on a wide range of projects across New Zealand, Canada and the US. Initially focusing on mechanical engineering, his passion for the environment quickly drew him into the world of sustainable building design.
Lisa Hinde
Head of Sustainability - Precinct Properties
Lisa is Head of Sustainability at Precinct Properties and is responsible for developing and implementing the ESG strategy for the business.
She is a NABERSNZ assessor, Green Star Accredited Professional and WELL Accredited Profession and prior to moving to NZ last year, she was Head of Sustainability at Colliers working across APAC to guide, interpret and apply the growing repertoire of ESG systems and frameworks across multiple asset classes at different stages of the built environment lifecycle.
Scott Smith
Technical Director - Sustainable Buildings - Beca
Scott Smith is a leader in sustainable design in NZ with almost 20 years of experience in the development of sustainability frameworks, assessment of building performance, design of high performing buildings, and establishment of modelling protocols.
Scott provides research and advice to Government, regulators, building sector clients, and the NZGBC. He is heavily involved in the ongoing development of Green Star, providing analysis to support performance settings for energy and carbon emissions.
