ECCHO modeling tool hits international ASHRAE140 standard

Another sign of industry confidence in ECCHO as an online energy modelling tool for Building Code energy performance compliance.

ECCHO or the Energy Carbon Calculator for Homes has been accredited under ASHRAE 140, a terrific endorsement for the hard work of our Director Market Transformation Sam Archer and our Homestar team who developed ECCHO in partnership with Passive House to support designers and assessors in modelling Building Code requirements under H1 Verification Method 1.

ASHRAE 140 is an international standard for the verification of building energy modelling software.

According to Sam, "regulators and industry are indicating that future iterations of the code will require energy modelling and ECCHO provides this through an online tool. Part of our role at the NZGBC is to support the sector to get ready for improvements to come. In developing ECCHO we've undertaken extensive consultation across our industry and with the Passive House Institute so achieving ASHRAE accreditation demonstrates a robust approach in developing an independent tool for users of Homestar."

Training is available through the NZ Green Building Council as part of the Homestar Designer course.
