What you need to know
Thousands of jobs are being lost in communities across Aotearoa due to soaring energy prices. The recent closures of three mills by Winstone Pulp International and Oji Fibre Solutions are a sobering reminder of the real-world impacts on regional economies. In many towns, processing industries are the largest employers—when they shut down, families leave, local businesses suffer, and entire communities are diminished.
With New Zealand facing what some commentators are calling a wave of deindustrialisation, it’s critical to explore solutions that can keep jobs, retain industry, and protect our export earnings.
This new report offers a clear and compelling path forward. By accelerating the adoption of industrial heat pumps, we can unlock major energy savings, reduce our reliance on gas, and free up energy for the industries and communities that need it most.
Due to unprecedented interest in the report, we’re holding a special session to unpack the findings and discuss what needs to happen next.
Join us to explore how smarter energy choices can help protect Kiwi jobs, industry, and household budgets as the gas runs out.
