Dr. Andrea Edwards
Head of Standards - Eco Choice Aotearoa (ECA)
Dr. Andrea Edwards brings a deep passion for environmental justice to her role as Head of Standards for Eco Choice Aotearoa (ECA). There, she guides the technical integrity and ongoing development of the organisation's 24 product standards to ensure that the products licenced by ECA meet global environmental best practices.
Before joining ECA in 2024, Andrea began her career as a budding environmental scientist, focusing on environmental inequality and its impact on vulnerable communities. In 2021, Andrea was awarded a Ph D in Environmental Sciences from the University of Auckland. Her thesis used historical geography and the environmental justice lens to investigate the historical impact of the Huntly Power Station on the Waikato. Currently, Andrea is concluding her work as a research fellow for the WERO (Working to End Racial Oppression) programme. There, she studied the impact of environmental disparities on ethnic migrant communities in Auckland.

Every month we hold our increasingly popular webinar series, which has previously covered issues including construction waste, te reo Māori in the built environment, eco labels, social procurement, wellbeing and healthy buildings, climate change, and much more. We also run regular webinars examining specific products and materials, and their relationship with green building certifications.
Demand for these webinars is increasing as our members ask for a range of themes and topic to build market readiness for the increased focus on carbon and the changes coming through certifications.
If you are unable to attend one of our regular webinars, you will be able to view it on our growing library of on-demand videos. For more information please visit https://nzgbc.org.nz/explore-on-demand-videos.
