New Zealand’s built environment spans an exceptionally diverse geography — from coastal settlements and floodplains to alpine regions, seismic zones and rapidly growing urban centres. These conditions already shape how homes and buildings are designed, constructed and perform over time.
As climate variability across Aotearoa increases, building owners and developers are facing new expectations to understand, assess and respond to location-specific environmental risk – particularly for assets designed for more predictable conditions.
Join us for a discussion about a new Climate Adaptation Planning template being designed for the property and construction sector
To support industry leadership and consistency, the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) is hosting a webinar to discuss the pending launch of a new template to guide Climate Adaptation Planning, developed in association with Sam Parsons (Boffa Miskell) and peer reviewed by experts in this field including James Hughes (Tonkin + Taylor).
In this webinar, we’ll explore:
This session is about preparation — supporting evidence-based responses that strengthen resilience and protect people, places and investments across Aotearoa.

Technical Director - Climate and Resilience | Tonkin + Taylor
James has a 20-year career in the infrastructure and environmental sectors and leads T+T’s climate change and resilience advisory practice. James led the ‘Built Environment’ domain of NZ’s first National Climate Change Risk Assessment and was part of MfE’s Climate Change Adaptation Technical Working Group. He has been part of the Deep South Science Challenge, and in 2021 he led the development of MfE’s ‘Guide to local climate change risk assessments’. He has been involved with a large number of climate change risk assessments, scenario planning projects, and climate related disclosures for the public and private sector – and is passionate about building robust and transparent approaches to underpin these.
Industry Relations Manager | NZGBC
Brad is the Industry Relationship Manager at the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), where he advocates for embedding sustainability into the built environment. He has overseen the transformation of the Green Star rating tools, driving greater industry participation and integrating best practices in carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and cultural engagement. Brad has led the development of embodied carbon and operational waste calculators, and worked closely with the Māori Technical Working Group to incorporate indigenous values into green building standards. With over 25 years of experience in environmental strategy, auditing, and advocacy, he brings a systems-level approach to climate resilience and regenerative design. Brad is passionate about creating buildings that not only minimise environmental impact but actively reconnect people with nature—fostering spaces that promote wellbeing, ecological awareness, and a deeper sense of place.
