The New Zealand Construction Industry Council (NZCIC) and the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) are pleased to invite you to an important election-year Construction and Property Political Panel taking place 11 August 2026 at the Aotea Centre, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
This timely session provides a rare opportunity to hear directly from political leaders on their priorities and vision for New Zealand’s built environment in the lead‑up to the 2026 General Election.
We have confirmed attendance from Ministers Hon Chris Bishop and Hon Shane Jones. They will be joined by building and energy spokespeople Cameron Luxton from ACT, Arena Williams from Labour, Julie Anne Genter from the Greens and Qiulae Wong from Opportunity.
The discussion will focus on critical reforms affecting the construction and property sectors, covering regulation and consenting, building resilience, access to products, energy security and affordability, workforce development and cost‑of‑living pressures.
The panel will follow the Green Property Summit, being held that day in the same venue. If you have purchased a ticket to the Green Property Summit, your ticket automatically includes this political panel.

Chris Bishop is the Attorney-General, Minister of Housing, Minister for Infrastructure, Minister Responsible for RMA Reform, Minister of Transport, and Associate Minister of Finance. He is the MP for Hutt South.
Chris was born and raised in Lower Hutt where he lives with his wife and two children. He has a first-class Honours degree in Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University of Wellington, and was the 2006 Young Wellingtonian of the Year.

Mr Jones entered Parliament in 2005 with the Labour Party and joined New Zealand First as an MP in 2017.
Labour
Arena grew up in South Auckland. She previously worked for a leading corporate law firm and has a strong background as a community organiser.
Arena said she stood for Parliament because she wants New Zealand to be a decent, fair place for her kids – doing her best for them means fighting for all families to have warm dry homes, our young people to be in world class education, our workers to be paid a decent wage and an environment that we care for as kaitiaki.
Greens
Julie Anne Genter is the Green MP for Rongotai and has been a Green list MP for over 12 years.
From 2017-2020. Julie Anne served as one of the first three Green Ministers of the Crown, as Minister for Women and Associate Minister of Transport and Health. She spearheaded the Clean Car Discount & Standards - which massively reduced the average emissions of vehicles being imported into the country.
ACT
Cameron Luxton is an LBP builder, dairy farmer, and advocate for hardworking New Zealanders.
Raised in Papamoa, he attended Mount Maunganui College before starting a building apprenticeship. His determination and work ethic soon took him to Galatea, where he spent seven years working on and running a 200-hectare farm. During that time, he was named Central Plateau Modern Apprentice of the Year in 2013 and Bay of Plenty Dairy Trainee of the Year in 2014.
Opportunity
Qiulae, originally from One Tree Hill in Auckland, built a career across human rights, climate, and purpose-driven business, working with global brands to drive sustainable change.
After returning to Aotearoa in 2022, she led the B Corp movement, supporting organisations like Kiwibank and Sharesies, and later advised major companies at KPMG on the transition to a low-carbon future.
Now, she is taking that experience into politics to help build stronger communities and restore nature at a national level.
