Embodied Carbon: An Industry Wide Methodology
Embodied Carbon: an industry wide methodology
A 2018 report by thinkstep anz revealed buildings and infrastructure contributes around 20% of New Zealand’s carbon emissions. With embodied carbon accounting for around half of that, the industry has been asking for a way to measure and reduce their footprint.
Following extensive industry consultation, the New Zealand Green Building Council released the latest update to Green Star Design and As Built – version 1.1 in April 2022. The update included a new minimum requirement under Credit 19 to address embodied carbon, with projects required to demonstrate a reduction of at least 10% compared to a reference building.
Watch this webinar with Jeff Vickers, Technical Director at thinkstep-anz who will define embodied carbon and upfront carbon and provide an understanding of the tool and guides available for embodied carbon in non-residential buildings.
