New Zealand's first green rated hotel opens its doors

October marked the opening of The Hotel Britomart – the first hotel in Aotearoa to be awarded a Green Star rating.

Anyone who has spent time in central Auckland will be familiar with the vibrant nine-block Britomart precinct on the city's waterfront. Since taking over ownership of the precinct, Cooper and Company has transformed the area's heritage buildings and bus depot into the bustling, character-filled heart of Auckland's downtown waterfront

The sustainable credentials of the precinct continues to grow, with the latest edition, The Hotel Britomart, awarded the country's first hotel Green Star rating for its design.

The Hotel Britomart includes the refurbishment of the neighbouring heritage Masonic and Buckland buildings, and the opening of a new public laneway connecting Galway and Customs Streets.

From Takutai Square the eye is now drawn to the hotel's hand-made brick façade. With 99 rooms and five rooftop suites, the hotel looks to offer a sustainable oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city life on its doorstep.
