Carlaw Park has played an important part in the history of Auckland City, with its unique location, bordering The Domain, Auckland’s Central Business District and Parnell. Originally the site of a flour mill, it became Chinese market gardens in the late 1800’s. Rugby League grandstands and terraces were built in 1916 and by 1921 Auckland Rugby League made Carlaw Park its home. The buildings are medium rise to a maximum of four floors with each floor having been designed to maximise efficient flow and light throughout the precinct and an emphasis made on minimising any detrimental impact on the occupiers’ useable floor space as much as possible.
The following sustainable features have been recognized under its Green Star rating:
- Achieved recycling and reuse of more than 70% of construction waste by weight
- The design of the ventilation system allows provision of fresh air to the office areas at a 50%
improvement rate above Building Code - Major public transport routes serve the surrounding area. As the building is very conveniently located near the city centre, greater use of public transport is encouraged
- 90% of NLA of the base building construction is fully integrated with the tenancy fit out works
- Full points awarded for treatment of contaminated land
- Full points awarded for the reuse of previously developed land
- A dedicated storage area is provided for the separation, collection and recycling of office
- Consumables with good access for all building occupants and for collection
