The intention for this is masterclass to increase the awareness of overheating as an increasingly important issue for homes in New Zealand. This session will provide practical steps for designer to improve summer comfort, understand the causes of overheating, how to assess overheating risk and what the possible solutions are to address overheating risk. 

This masterclass will cover the following topics: 

  • Understanding of overheating and other aspects of thermal comfort
  • Knowing the causes of overheating and why it is important and relevant in New Zealand
  • Understanding what to consider when designing to mitigate overheating risk and how to assess overheating risk
  • Knowing the possible solutions to address overheating risk and their pros and cons
  • Stepping through solutions in ECCHO

Jo Woods

Director of Sustainability, Revolve Energy

Jo provides sustainability consultancy services to clients across Aotearoa.  She enjoys the collaborative nature of this work and the opportunity to work with others to create innovative solutions.  Jo has worked with clients to develop thermal comfort and energy strategies that will help reduce carbon emissions and provide resilience for building occupants and owners against the changing climate. 

Jo has been working with Green Star, either as a GSAP, Assessor, energy and thermal comfort modeller or advisor within rating tool development, since 2007.  Her extensive experience has provided her with a good understanding of how rating tools can provide a framework and common language to assist clients with achieving their sustainability goals and catalyse positive transformation in the industry.

Technical Manager - Residential

Dr Damiloju is the Technical Manager - Residential at the NZGBC. Using her problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as her academic and technical experience to provide technical guidance for projects and professionals.

Damiloju, with a strong interest in building sustainability, decarbonisation, and climate change, explored the Passive House framework in cooling-dominated climates obtaining a PhD from the Auckland University of Technology.

Matthew Cutler-Welsh

Business Development Manager - Residential

Working with Homestar and HomeFit,  Matthew’s mission is to inspire people to make a better place to live.  After completing his Honours Degree in Natural Resources Engineering Matthew now has 15 years of experience leading residential energy efficiency projects and education programmes in New Zealand and Australia. In 2016 he joined the Board of the Passive House Institute New Zealand.  

An experienced presenter, facilitator and podcaster, Matthew has interviewed over 200 architects, builders and industry experts from around the World on the Home Style Green podcast. He is also the co-host of the Passive House Podcast.

Our masterclasses do not have an assessment that needs to be completed and just serves as an on the day workshop in which you will step through exercises with the trainers and afterwards you will be awarded 4 CPD points with NZGBC.
