New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB) has launched two new home designs that are Homestar ready, offering Kiwi families a faster, healthier, and more affordable pathway to quality housing.
The designs, developed in collaboration with Designgroup Stapleton Elliott, are now available on the Studio section of the NZCB website. They are architect-designed and tailored to meet the needs of modern New Zealand households, with a clear pathway to consent that can have families ready to build in as little as eight weeks.
Supporting better outcomes for homeowners and developers
The homes are Homestar Ready, meaning they meet key performance criteria for energy efficiency, moisture control, and indoor air quality. This can lead to healthier living environments and long-term cost savings for homeowners, depending on how the home is built, maintained, and lived in.
Homestar certification also unlocks financial benefits. Developers may be eligible for reduced development finance costs, and homeowners could save between $60,000 and $98,000 on mortgage interest over the life of their loan.
Plans start from $15,500, making these homes a cost-effective option for families seeking high-performance housing without the premium price tag.
Industry collaboration delivering impact
NZCB Chief Executive Malcolm Fleming says the initiative reflects a shared commitment to better housing outcomes: “We’re proud to be working alongside NZGBC to help deliver homes that are not only affordable and well-designed, but also healthier and more efficient for New Zealand families. These Homestar Ready designs are a great example of what can be achieved when industry comes together with a clear focus on quality and sustainability.”
NZGBC Chief Executive Andrew Eagles adds:
“It’s fantastic to see New Zealand Certified Builders stepping up with designs that support healthier, lower carbon homes. Homestar Ready homes are a key part of the solution—helping families live better while also reducing emissions. We’re proud to support this work and the wider shift toward more sustainable housing across Aotearoa.”
